About FableWatch

FableWatch existed to answer one question continuously: is claude-fable-5 reachable again? The model went dark on June 12 and returned on July 1, and the site called it. The monitor polls independent sources — the first-party API and OpenRouter — on a one-minute cycle, and shows both signals on the homepage rather than collapsing them into a single trust-me status light. Behind that sits a real product: notification fan-out with idempotent per-recipient locks, Stripe checkout with a webhook ledger, and phone verification gating anything that dials or texts. Now that the watch is over, it points visitors at ArtificialWatch for the next frontier drop.

Behind the build

A one-minute cron tick kept a serverless Postgres compute awake around the clock, because it only scales to zero after five idle minutes, and that burned through the free plan's compute hours mid-month.

The database then refused connections for days while the pages degraded silently to zeros, since every failed read was caught and returned as 0. The rebuild moved live state onto blob storage with one rule: an ordinary tick makes no blob writes or lists. Reads go through the CDN, periodic writers are gated on timestamps, atomicity comes from create-only objects instead of transactions, and a failing store now emails someone.
