About Fuse

Fuse is built to replace a crowded menu bar with one icon that opens into a categorized list of everything that used to be up there. Running status items are discovered through CGWindowListCopyWindowInfo, grouped however suits you — Dev Tools, Audio, System — and clicked by proxy through the Accessibility API, the intent being that each app's own menu appears exactly as it normally would. Original icons can be hidden to get the space back, and every row carries a live mini-screenshot of the real status item, so the list matches whatever that app is currently showing.

Behind the build

The Accessibility API element traversal is the hardest part.

The menu bar is an AXUIElement containing children for each status item — matching them to apps requires cross-referencing CGWindowList PIDs with AXUIElement ownership. Some apps use NSStatusItem and others reach for private APIs, so proxy-clicking will not work universally — where it fails, the plan is to say so with a 'click failed' toast rather than leave a dead icon.
