About Mira

Mira is built to publish a macOS virtual camera that plays a short recorded loop of you, so you can step off a call without your video going dark. Audio is left completely untouched. You record a clip, keep a library of them, and the loop engine plays one back ping-pong style, the aim being that it does not read as an obvious loop. Global hotkeys switch it on and off without leaving the call. Live preview and camera switching work today and recording and the clip library are implemented, but the virtual camera has never loaded: it cannot be published to other apps until the system extension can be signed.

Anyone stuck on camera-on calls who occasionally needs to be somewhere else.

Behind the build

Fully written and compiling, but the virtual camera has never loaded: a CMIO camera is a system extension, and Apple's capability table withholds System Extension from free accounts, so a personal team can't sign it.

Until it is signed by a paid Developer Program team, FaceTime, Photo Booth and every other app simply don't see the camera. The preview build shows the live camera and switches between cameras; recording and the clip library are implemented, and the loop's ping-pong ordering passes its checks, but nothing displays the loop until the extension loads.
